Expedition Route
Arrival in Nairobi and the Giraffe Centre
Met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by your Safari Boyz representative and taken to the Giraffe Centre, a conservation centre for the endangered Rothschild's giraffe, to get close to the giraffes and, subject to the centre's arrangements, feed them from the raised platform. Then dinner at a selected restaurant in Nairobi as a first taste of Kenyan cuisine, and on to your hotel for the night.
Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After breakfast, north through the central highlands, past farmland and coffee and tea country, to Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the foothills of Mount Kenya. Lunch and check-in, then an afternoon game drive looking for elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes and birdlife in a conservancy known especially for its rhino conservation. Dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp.
Ol Pejeta and the Chimpanzee Sanctuary
An early morning game drive through different parts of Ol Pejeta, with chances of rhinos, elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and plains game. Back for lunch and a rest, then a visit to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a refuge for rescued and orphaned chimpanzees, to learn about its rehabilitation work. Evening at leisure, dinner and overnight.
Ol Pejeta to Samburu National Reserve
North into the drier, more dramatic country of Samburu National Reserve, with its rocky hills and the Ewaso Nyiro River. Lunch and check-in, then an afternoon game drive for species found mainly in northern Kenya: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and Beisa oryx, as well as elephants, lions, leopards and buffaloes. Dinner and overnight.
Samburu National Reserve
A full day in Samburu, along the river and across the open plains: elephants at the water, reticulated giraffes, Grevy's zebras, gerenuks standing on their hind legs to browse, Beisa oryx and, with luck, lions, leopards and cheetahs. A picnic lunch or a return to the lodge depending on the day, then afternoon game drives before dinner and overnight.
Samburu to the Aberdares
After breakfast, back south towards the green central highlands and the Treetops area of the Aberdares. Arrive for lunch and check-in, with time to take in the forest setting, famous for its place in Kenya's wildlife and conservation history. Dinner and overnight.
Aberdares to Lake Nakuru National Park
Through central Kenya towards the Great Rift Valley and its escarpments to Lake Nakuru. Lunch and check-in, then an afternoon game drive in a park known for its rhinos, birdlife and scenery, with chances of buffaloes, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras and antelope. Dinner and overnight.
Lake Nakuru National Park
A full day in Lake Nakuru National Park: a morning game drive across its grassland, woodland and lakeshore, one of the best places to see both black and white rhinos, with buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, waterbuck and plenty of birds. Lunch and a rest, then an afternoon drive through areas not covered in the morning. Dinner and overnight.
Lake Nakuru to the Masai Mara
Through the Rift Valley and rural Kenya to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Lunch and check-in, then a first afternoon game drive on the open savannah, home to elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and wildebeest. Dinner and overnight.
Full day in the Masai Mara
An early breakfast and out for a full day with a packed picnic lunch, exploring the Mara's grassland, rivers and plains. Some of Kenya's best chances of lions, cheetahs and, with luck, leopards, with elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and birds. Your guide chooses areas by recent sightings and the season. Back in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Masai Mara
Another morning game drive into different parts of the reserve, looking for what you may have missed the day before, and back at midday for lunch. A late-afternoon drive in the golden light, then dinner and overnight. Optional extras at additional cost: horse riding safari ($200 pp), hot air balloon ($500 pp), bush breakfast or dinner ($60 pp) and walking safari ($25 pp).
Masai Mara to Lake Naivasha
Through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha for lunch and check-in. In the afternoon, Sanctuary Farm for a boat ride on the lake, with hippos in the water and fish eagles overhead, followed by a guided walking safari to see the area's plants, wildlife and conservation work at a slower pace. Dinner and overnight.
Lake Naivasha to Diani Beach
After breakfast, the road transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your scheduled flight to the coast. Met at Diani (Ukunda) and taken to your beach resort to settle in and enjoy the rest of the day.
Diani Beach
A day to relax on the Kenyan coast: the pool, the white sand and the warm Indian Ocean. Optional excursions can be arranged at extra cost, such as snorkelling, diving, dolphin trips, water sports and cultural experiences, subject to availability and weather.
Diani Beach
Your final full day on the coast, at your own pace: the resort and beach, a swim, one of the optional excursions, souvenirs, or simply rest after the safari.
Diani to Nairobi (JKIA)
A final breakfast and check-out, then the transfer to Ukunda (Diani) airport for your flight to Nairobi, connecting at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with your onward international flight.
